Well-known as the showcase for technologies focusing on production and market development - where Bari, the capital of Puglia, is its natural reference centre - BI-MU MEDITERRANEA provides exhibitors with an ideal setting for presenting production in the sector. The show is backed up by the organisational skills of the ENTE AUTONOMO FIERA DEL LEVANTE and its collaboration with the specialised structures of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the Italian association of manufacturers of the sector. The sixth edition of the event, held in February 2008, attracted 7,500 visitors interested in the show offering involving 265 companies and a stand area of almost 7,000 square metres. Italian manufacturers were joined at the exhibition by companies from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, South Korea, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, Israel, Holland, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and the USA. The most innovative proposals at the sitxh edition of BI-MU MEDITERRANEA included systems based on functional modularity that can be easily and rapidly adapted to variations in production, thereby ensuring that user industry can install agile systems characterised by flexibility and re-configuration.

Since its encourages contacts between supply and demand for innovation, the 2008 edition of BI-MU MEDITERRANEA has been chosen by ICE (Italian Institute for Foreign Trade) to organise, in collaboration with UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE and FIERA DEL LEVANTE, a series of meetings between Italian exhibitors and around thirty trade operators from Croatia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Morocco, Slovenia and Tunisia - some of the most industrialised international countries in the technological showcase focus presented by the exhibition. Major interest is equally aroused by the convention programme supporting the exhibition event as such: over the years, this event has attracted the attention of business operators including Alcatel, Alenia Aerospazio, Alfa Romeo Avio, Ansaldo, Bosch Braking Systems, Ceccato, Electrolux Zanussi, Enichem, Fiat Avio, Iveco, Fiat-Hitachi, Getrag, Honeywell Garrett, Ilva Laminati Piani, Isotta Fraschini Motori, Italsider, Magneti Marelli, Moneta Pentole, Natuzzi, Nestlè Purina, Nsk-Rhp, Nuovo Pignone, Osram Sud, Orsogril, Piaggio Aero Industries, Polimeri Europa, Selenia, Shell, Siemens Stock, Tenaris Dalmine, West Wind Energy Systems and Yamaha. Significant interest is equally expressed by scientific institutes and research authorities: these include, among others, ENEA, ITIA CNR, the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Universities of Ancona, Bari, Lecce and Palermo.
